Anna Campbell, 11, designs a winning logo for local Residents’ Association By Alex Clouter Findon Valley Residents’ Association (FVRA) was in need of a new look and decided to use the young creativity at Vale First and Middle School. “Never having had a logo for our association since it started in 1936, we thought it was good to have a competition,” says David Goncalves, FVRA Chairman. “It was during our monthly committee meeting that we concluded that we should involve the local school.” From a short list of around 35 designs, five were put forward to the committee for consideration and the result was one that captured the immediate surroundings of the Findon Valley community. David continues, “When we made contact with the Campbell family there was a squeal of excitement, especially from 11 year old Anna who had never won any competition up to this one!”
Anna won a £25 gift card, which was presented to her by FVRA School Liaison Officer Verity Cullingford (centre, back row) outside the school with parents, David and Sally Campbell. Anna continues, “I thought of the countryside as part of the logo because I was thinking of Cissbury Ring as I have just been doing a project on it and that gave me the idea. “At school I love Art. Literacy, Music and PE so I think I might get something to do with Art and probably a DVD with whatever is left over.” Anna has been at Vale School since year 4 and within the family she has two half sisters, Heather and Teresa. “We are very happy that Anna won this competition”, says her parents, “as she has always had a gift for Art and now it has been rewarded in the best way possible; it’s always nice to feel that your efforts have been appreciated in some way.” The new FVRA logo can be seen in the top left hand corner of every web page.
