The school, one of nine from England to take part in the event, also won four judges' awards. An extremely rare jacket is going on show for the first time in Worthing, from Saturday, 12 February.

The blackwork embroidery jacket bodice, dated c. 1615, is the earliest item In Worthing's Museum's costume collection and it is rare because items from this date often do not survive in such good condition.

It will be on display as part of the Blooming Marvellous Exhibition, running from 12 February to 1 June in the art gallery at the Chapel Road museum.

Feast your eyes on some fabulous frocks in a celebration of floral fashion spanning more than 300 years, all taken from the museum's costumes and textiles collection.

Following the Adur Festival Art Trail, to celebrate Worthing and Adur Councils' partnership an exhibition is being held at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery to showcase Adur artists.

Pamela Driscoll, who is in charge of cultural projects and arts development, commented, "Contemporary, affordable, diverse and unique - just four words capture the essence of up to 80 mixed media works by some 30 local professional painters and crafts people."

Highlights of the show, Adur Art Collective, opened in July and runs until 2 October 2010, include colourful paintings and prints by Shoreham Beach artists Miranda Vincent and Katie Sollohub, Gillian Hill's mosaics, Tamar Rose's ceramics and Chris Howitt's stained glass.

Lancing-based Marcus Finch's pastels, paintings and ceramics combine with Philip de Mazia's dynamic-mixed media sculpture.

2D and 3D are well represented with forms and structures by local sculptors from the City College Brighton and Hove, Northbrook College and Steyning Adult Education, taught by Teresa Martin, whose stunning larger-scale work can be seen in the museum's garden exhibition, Double Take, this summer, too.

Adur Art Collective is a rich mix of media and local talent. If you missed the Adur Festival Art Trail or just want to savour it some more, now's your chance to catch up.

Never seen together since 1889, two pendant paintings by Sir Robert Ponsonby Staples have been lovingly restored over seven years and newly hung at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery.

'The Last Shot for the Queen's Prize' and 'Queen's Prizemen' have been unveiled following restoration work to remove more than 120 years of dirt, oil and smoke.

After months of conservation, preparation, planning and scaffolding, the oil on canvas, gold framed, multiple portraits finally hang together on permanent display in the first floor stairwell outside the Norwood Gallery.

'The Last Shot' had hung alone for many years since its companion was hidden away in the art store in a state of disrepair. Now, thanks to the generosity of The Friends of Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, the town can fully celebrate two of its key gifts bequeathed by museum benefactor Alfred Cortis, the first Worthing mayor.

Visitors can enjoy the original glory of these grand and large-scale Victorian masterpieces, expertly restored by a number of different local professionals.

The more familiar 'Last Shot' commemorates the final scene of the Queen's Prize shooting competition at Wimbledon in 1887 - a crowded group portrait of those involved, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, Edward and Alexandra, and Alfred Cortis himself.

More unusually the Queen's Prizemen depicts 27 individual portraits of each prizemen, arranged in a long chronological line.

Laura Kidner, curator of art and exhibitions, comments, " There are a number of entertaining stories connected to these pictures, which can be found on the labels displayed. However we know that the artist, Ponsonby Staples, was an eccentric Irish baronet, nicknamed Wimbledon Staples after it took him two exhausting years to paint the works. He lived to 90 years of age, believing that walking barefoot would prolong his life."
