Current Objectives

Immediate

1. Peak-time parking issues in the Vale School vicinity

UPDATE: 29 October 2011

The FVRA is currently investigating the ongoing problems of parking at early morning/mid-late afternoon time slots with parents taking/collecting children at Vale School.

Parents are both parking on double yellow lines and right by the school where they should not be parking and also being inconsiderate and very rude and driving too fast etc....

Residents and other parents are extremely concerned the way that children are taken to school. This is exacerbated by the fact that allegedly WSCC have forced more children into the school and instead of the intake being 75 children, it is now 90 children per year which will only add to the misery.

Another issue is the bicycle shed is not even locked up and anyone can come along and steal bicycles/scooters. There is obviously the C&FC which is apparently attracting more and more people all the time.

The School Governor is already in discussion with West Sussex County Council Highways and there are some 'positive looking changes' at the Vale Drive junctions with regards to restrictions.

The FVRA is keeping a vigilant watch on these issues, closely liaising with both the Headteacher and the School Governor.

2. Planning Application - Reference: AWDM/0256/11

This refers to trees, wholly within the grounds of 1 - 19 Fontwell Drive which provide a screen between the flats, the road and the roundabout. This affects some 68 trees in all, either for felling, crowning, topping or pruning. These trees were planted to provide a buffer zone for the residents as a natural screen against traffic noise and as a pollution filter to enhance/protect their quality of well-being.

Residents feel that such a drastic reduction of this woodland area will seriously affect their lives This is especially relevant at this time of year when the growth is in full leaf and is a very effective barrier. This is not the time of year for such work as there are also many young birds and mammals (badgers) using this wildlife habitat which they need to build up their winter reserves. It is believed that last year a survey deemed that the air quality at the roundabout fell far short of acceptable levels and in order to improve this MORE TREES were planted on the diagonally opposite corner, so where is the logic in reducing the number of trees on the other side of the junction?

There has been no consultation by Worthing Homes with the residents of the effect of this proposed work, which is of concern as they have a duty of care to act in the best interests of their tenants.

UPDATE: 11 September 2011

Due to objections from the residents and the FVRA, this application has been rejected by the planning department of Worthing Borough Council. A fresh revised application will be made incorporating the recommendations outlined in the submission of the objection. Residents have received a letter from Worthing Homes outlining the proposals which they intend to submit in the revised application; this appears to be exactly what the residents wished at the outset and if only consultation had taken place initially, time and costs could have been saved by all.

3. Planning application on Fiat/PDH garage premises in Findon Road

Planned development put on hold pending a viability report from the Council.

4. HGVs in King's Parade and unloading in the main carriageway

UPDATE: 11 September 2011

Now that West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Highways Department has completed its restructuring the FVRA has established a link and met with the Principal Community Highways Officer. Following a joint site visit, the proposal for improvement of HGV signage has been put forward and to be considered by the County Local Committee (CLC) at their next meeting, held three times a year. If the officer makes a recommendation, the committee usually approves the application.

FVRA will be monitoring the situation of HGVs parking and unloading on the main A24 carriage row, forcing southbound traffic across the busy northbound traffic lane.

5. Parking on the slip roads at the bottom end of Vale Drive

UPDATE: 11 September 2011

Another proposal that will be put at the next  CLC meeting is the setting up of restricted parking on the two slip roads either side of the bottom of Vale Drive, i.e. the adjoining slip road of Kumari and the shoe shop the other slip road where the dentist and vet is situated.

6. 'Disabled' parking bays in King's Parade.

The FVRA is currently reviewing this issue.

Longer Term

1. Relocating the Cissbury Court bus-stop.
