(Click on the image above to see a larger version of this postcard) History of the FVRA 23 residents formed the Findon Valley Residents’ Association (FVRA) in 1936 to oppose the erection of a factory in the Valley as well as to protect and promote the villagers’ interests. For the next 40 years or so the FVRA was instrumental in getting many improvements and new public service amenities built like the library, a children’s playground and the scheduling of The Gallops as an open space. In 1974 the FVRA changed its name to Findon Valley Society, still upholding the Association’s objectives, and became a member of The Civic Trust and The Federation of Sussex Amenity Societies. A celebration of the Society's Golden Jubilee was held in 1986 and the planting of a special commemorative tree. A change in name back to Findon Valley Residents' Association took place in 2006 to reinforce the importance of what the association was all about, still maintaining its charity status. With more volunteers coming forward to become FVRA Committee members, concerted efforts have effectively been made to improve the area's facilities like new pedestrian crossings on the A24 Findon Road and A27 Warren Road, a 'safer routes to school' policy and 'keep clear' markings on the busy A24/A27 roundabout. Over the years the FVRA has forged close working links with councillors of Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council, other bodies/organisations with similar aims and with Tim Loughton, our local Member of Parliament. To allow both FVRA members and residents to 'have their say' we hold two Annual Meetings per year. We invite Councillors and our local MP to attend, answering questions and listening to diverse points of view. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place in April, during which Officers and Committee Members are elected. Our Autumn Open Meeting (AOM) happens during September/November. The FVRA Committee meets on a monthly basis and deals with planning applications, council minutes, members' correspondence and issues of local interest and concern. With the success of our Late Night Shopping at King's Parade over the last few years, we now have an Events Committee that plans and organises this social event for the benefit of residents and businesses alike.
