History of FVS

The Society welcomes all residents and others with a legitimate interest in Findon Valley in the hope they will enjoy all the amenities that this area has to offer.  The Society acts on behalf of its members to maintain and improve the services already provided. It has forged close links with the Councillors of Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council, our local Member of Parliament and other bodies with similar aims.

("Others" above include parents at Vale School, and local business people who may be resident elsewhere.)

Ø    The Society was formed in 1936 – A celebration of our Golden Jubilee was held in 1986 when we planted a commemorative tree.

Ø     We have a close association with the Doctors who run the Doctors who run Limetree Surgery Practice and Vale School.

Ø We constantly review Local and Central Government transport initiatives relevant to the Valley, including the infamous A27 by-pass, speed limits, repairs and traffic flows.

Ø    The Society is a member of various bodies representing local interests including the Federation of Sussex Amenity Societies and the Civic Trust.

Ø   There are two General Meetings held each year. The AGM (in April) when Officers and Committee Members are elected, and an Open General Meeting in the Autumn. Members can pose forward questions and points of view at both meetings, and to which Local Councillors and our MP are always invited.

Ø    The Committee meets on a monthly basis and deals with planning applications, council minutes, correspondence from members and issues of local interest and concern.

Ø    A Newsletter is delivered to every household twice a year, immediately prior to the Annual and Open General Meetings.  It is our aim that each road in the Valley should have its own Representative to collect annual subscriptions, and to help link the members with the Committee.  If you would like to take on this role, please contact us here.

Ø     As a non-political organisation we feel able to promote or debate any issues for the benefit of residents in the valley.

Ø     The Society is actively involved in the preservation of our surrounding countryside and the character of the Valley.
