Safety work nears for accident spot !
An accident blackspot in Findon Valley is a step nearer to some remedial action. West Sussex County Council’s highways department is to undertake a head count at the central refuge near the doctors surgery and the library in Findon Road.
Residents have welcomed the move which has come after extensive campaigning to draw attention to the dangers faced when using the crossing.
The narrow refuge has no room for pushchairs or wheelchairs, and traffic speeds by making it difficult and dangerous for them to cross the A24.
Residents living on the west side of the A24 have to use the crossing to reach the shops, library, doctors and pharmacy but say they fear for their lives.
“We hope that the County will put a proper controlled crossing there to enable everyone to cross the road in safety. We desperately need a reduction in the speed limit to 30mph throughout the valley” said campaigner Susan Smith.
