Whilst older people are generally at lower risk of crime, they are certainly more susceptible to one type of criminal – the distraction burglar. Otherwise known as 'bogus callers', their aim is to distract you, so that they can gain entry to steal money and valuables. They may also attempt to entice people into unordered, unnecessary and costly repairs – or even impersonate reputable service providers!

'Bogus callers' come in all manner of guises, with all types of bogus identification – and with a variety of reasons to try to gain entry.

Fortunately, there are many simple measures to take – to avoid becoming a victim of the unscrupulous 'bogus caller'. The essential precaution should always be: 'IF IN DOUBT, KEEP THEM OUT.'
