There were around 100 dogs with their families and friends at this year's 4th Findon Valley Fun Dog Show, organised by a friendly group of local dog owners and enthusiasts. They were supported by the FVRA who liaised with Worthing Council on the licence to use The Gallops as well as covering this annual event with their public liability insurance and assistance with publicity.
£1,600 was raised for Paws Animal Sanctuary and Sussex Pet Rescue.

The third annual Charity Fun Dog Show, held on the 26 June 2016, was organised again by Pat Eves, Geoff & Lynn Raynsford on behalf of the FVRA with help from their friends. Pat was also one of the judges alongside Russ Akehurst, Dog Patrol Officer from Adur & Worthing Council. Registration to the 8 classes, sponsored by a variety of local businesses. Registration started at 12 noon and 99 dogs were entered and judging began at 1pm.
Due to unforseen circumstances Stacey McSpirit from PAWS Animal Sanctuary was unable to come along but the show carried on! Food and refreshments were available from Eats & Treats, a cafe in King's Parade. For the first time there was a new area set aside for two agility courses, set up and ran by Summerhill Canine Hydrotherapy. There were stalls from the RSPCA and petzedz alongside the FVRA Grand Raffle. The Rosettes were kindly sponsored by Mickey Halford Jarvis Plasterers.
The total amount raised for PAWS Animal Sanctuary was £1,001. This comprised of proceeds collected from the £1 class entry per dog, £2 entry for the agility course, a kind donation from Lynn Raynsford for the gifts handed out to the final six of each class, sponsorship of classes by local businesses plus a generous donation from Summerhill Canine Hydrotherapy.
Over the three shows £2,455.15 has been generated to support PAWS, thanks to everyone who has kindly supported our community event. The FVRA fully appreciates the time, effort, enthusiasm and work put into the Charity Fun Dog Show by Pat Eves and her friends, firmly making it a popular community event.
The second FVRA Charity Fun Dog show took place on Sunday afternoon, 14 June 2015. The weather started off with a cloudy sky above The Gallops, but that did not deter the many pet dog owners and families coming along to enjoy their time. Pat Eves had her longstanding friends helping with setting everything up alongside Russ Akehurst, the local dog warden from Worthing Borough Council, who prepared the central ring where the dogs will enter and show themselves off to the judges (Pat and Russ) competing for 'best in class'.
Pat worked hard in securing sponsors for all the nine classes, which included a new 'best rescue' section and a 'reserve best in show' position for 2015
The 'sign-in' tent began busy soon after 12 noon, with 3 people issuing forms to the many people coming from within Findon Valley and surrounding areas. The money from the £1 entry per class per dog and a £1 entry for 5 raffle tickets, once any costs for the rosettes and the winning trophy would be taken away, will be donated to PAWS Animal Sanctuary. PAWS had their own marquee as well as the local RSPCA branch. We were delighted to see 105 dogs who were entered into the classes.
On Sunday afternoon, 11 May, the Findon Valley Residents’ Association (FVRA) held the first ever Fun Dog Show in The Gallops, Findon Valley, raising much needed funds for the Paws Animal Sanctuary. This was thanks to Pat Eves, FVRA committee member, who put the idea forward at a monthly FVRA meeting. She got Russ Akehurst, the local dog warden, to assist with the judging plus a group of friends to help with putting on and publicising the event.
The weather was great, the 105 dogs that came along were wagging happily and their proud owners were smiling all the time! There were eight categories for the dogs to be entered, charged at £1 per dog per category. The categories included ‘best puppy’, ‘best child handler’, ‘veteran’, ‘best six legs’ and, of course, ‘best in show’.
The ‘best in show’ winner was Pearl, a cross-breed aged 9 years’ old rescue dog from Romania and owned by Kelly Nottage, who received the trophy and rosettes. The total amount of money raised in the afternoon was an amazing £770.25 that will be presented by cheque to Stacey McSpirit and Sheila Steere who run the Paws Animal Sanctuary in Findon. Special thanks go to the many local businesses that sponsored the categories and other aspects to the running of Findon Valley’s first ever Fun Dog Show, which will no doubt be in the FVRA events diary next year!!
